Legally Blonde is finally back in the Philippine musical theater scene after 15 years! Mark your calendars for May 3-4 and 8-11, 2025, at the Ateneo de Manila University. This exciting production comes from Ateneo Blue Repertory, known for the award-winning Zsazsa Zaturnnah The Musical… ‘Yun Lang!, The PROM, RENT (2018), Next to Normal (2020), and Spring Awakening.

Elle Woods seems to have everything, but her world turns upside down when Warner dumps her to attend Harvard Law. Determined to win him back, she cleverly finds a way into the prestigious school. However, she soon faces challenges from her peers, professors, and ex-boyfriend. With the support of new friends, Elle discovers her true potential and sets out to prove herself.

As the grand finale of Ateneo Blue Repertory’s 33rd season, themed Full Bloom: Transformation in Motion, Legally Blonde follows Elle’s journey beyond societal expectations, embracing her strength and truth. With a fresh and grounded take, this production highlights sisterhood, solidarity, and feminine power, shining a new, vibrant light on the beloved musical.

Creative Vision and Direction

Leading the creative team, Meann Espinosa directs Legally Blonde after her work on Hustisya.exe for PETA Ctrl+Shift. Meanwhile, Matthew Chang takes charge of musical direction, bringing his expertise from Chasing Dick: A Love Story. Jim Ferrer, known for his work on Ang Huling El Bimbo (2017), crafts dynamic choreography that will energize the stage. In addition, Ohm David, who recently designed Mula sa Buwan (2024), leads production design to create a visually stunning world.

Technical and Visual Excellence

Jethro Nibaten, lighting designer for Bar Boys: A New Musical (2024), ensures captivating lighting effects that enhance every scene. Similarly, Hershee Tantiado, recognized for Jepoy and the Magic Circle, curates costumes that embody each character’s personality. Kabaitan Bautista, fresh from Paskong Hiling: Ang Musikal, provides sound design consultancy to refine the show’s audio experience. Meanwhile, Regina De Vera, known for the PROM and Huling Palabas, carefully guides intimacy direction to ensure authentic and respectful portrayals.

For technical direction, Adriane Ungriano from The Half-Life of Marie Curie (2024) and Emma Oranza from Gruesome Playground Injuries lead with precision. Additionally, Ghie Bernardo oversees sound engineering to perfect the auditory elements. On the branding side, Alexis Chua and Ugi Quijote, both from the PROM, shape the show’s visual identity, while Regina Manalo expertly manages brand strategies. Altogether, this powerhouse team promises an unforgettable production of Legally Blonde.

A Talented Cast Bringing Legally Blonde to Life

A talented cast will bring Legally Blonde to life with energy and excitement, making each character fun and memorable for audiences. Daniella Nicola Tan and LJ Bala will take turns playing Elle Woods, bringing confidence and charm to the well-loved character. Meanwhile, MC Dela Cruz and Ron Balgos will portray Emmett Forrest, adding warmth and depth to his caring and supportive personality. Norbs Portales and JV Fulgencio will also take turns as Professor Callahan, giving the role a strong and powerful presence.

Theo Gaspar will play Warner Huntington III, bringing his charming yet selfish personality to life in this exciting production of Legally Blonde. Brooke Wyndham will be played by Misha Fabian and Senanda, both delivering strong energy and passion to the well-known character. Meanwhile, Gel Basa and Raflesia Bravo will share the role of Paulette, making her funny and full of heart. Lastly, Matt Gador will play Kyle B. O’Boyle, making his character fun and lively for the audience.

Legally Blonde will run for ten shows from May 3-4 and 8-11, 2025, at the Doreen Black Box Theater, Areté. Matinee shows will begin at 2:30 PM on May 3-4 and May 10-11, bringing exciting performances for all ages. Gala shows will start at 7:00 PM on May 3-4 and May 8-11, offering a wonderful evening experience. Recommended for audiences aged 9 and up, this show will be a fun and inspiring event for everyone watching.
