Why HUB | Make Lab is the Must-Visit Destination for Every Creative in Manila!

When it comes to aesthetics, Manila City is one of the destinations frequented by tourists, whether from within or outside Metro Manila. Among its vibrant offerings is HUB | Make Lab, located at 413 Escolta Street in the First United Building, Manila, Philippines. This creative community and alternative retail incubation space is designed to make small businesses more engaging and sustainable. This Hub is open everyday from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM.

A Space for Innovation

HUB | Make Lab serves as an incubation space for entrepreneurs who wish to experiment in a stable and sustainable environment. It welcomes sellers and concessionaires of various products. For instance, you can find crafts, unique artworks, limited edition merchandise, innovative food items, upcycled clothing and accessories, independent clothing labels, DIY wares, vintage goods, and refurbished antiques. This diverse range of offerings makes it a unique shopping destination that supports local creativity and entrepreneurship.

A Historical Location

Known simply as the Hub, this adaptive reuse incubator space caters to creative startups and artists. It also functions as an alternative shopping center. Importantly, it occupies the former location of Berg’s Department Store in the historic First United Building on Escolta Street in Binondo, Manila.

Opened in 2016, it followed the success of the Saturday X Future Market organized by the artist collective 98B COLLABoratory. Consequently, HUB | Make Lab has become a focal point for increased foot traffic during events like the Escolta Block Party.

Growth and Recognition

Since its inception, HUB | Make Lab has evolved into its own organization that serves creative and action-oriented communities. Furthermore, it has gained recognition as a reference point for other new creative hubs across the Philippines. A notable example is Pineapple Lab, which was located in Poblacion, Makati City, before closing down in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through its innovative approach to fostering local talent and promoting sustainable practices, HUB | Make Lab enriches Manila’s cultural landscape. It also contributes to the city’s reputation as a vibrant hub for creativity and entrepreneurship.

Indeed, it stands as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives. These initiatives shape a brighter future for local artists and entrepreneurs alike.
